Liberal Leadership Race Tightens

Martha Hall Findlay and Gerard Kennedy are not running. Its down to Ignatieff, Rae and Leblanc. Why? Well, there is a small chance it has something to do with this:

In addition to the date and location of the Convention, the National Executive has set the entry fee for Leadership candidates at $90,000 and the spending limit at $1.5 million. A levy of 10% will also be imposed on directed donations. - Doug Ferguson Press Release, Nov. 8th

I guess we now know the answer to who is winning this argument. Needless to say, Mr. Ignatieff is now most likely to win at the Convention in May.

Bush Countdown

Comment

If you are like me and wondering how many more days the world has to put up with George W. Bush who now has the highest ever disapproval rating of any president, here is a handy countdown. Strangely, the answers is always: not soon enough.

Remember

This day we take a moment and remember the sacrifices made by so many brave souls who remind us about the meaning of honor, sacrifice and love for family and country. Its the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War. I am reminded how much we take for granted in our daily lives in Canada: peace, liberty, opportunity, prosperity. We owe an infinite amount of gratitude and appreciation to the generations that came before us. We must remember that always.

Palin Will Be Back

Comment

I think people really underestimate Sarah Palin. Its not very often that the Vice Presidential part of the ticket receives bigger crowds and more attention before and after the election. Its been a few days since the results and people are still talking about her. During this campaign she’s learned a few things about politics and herself. The way she separated herself from the campaign, even now, shows she is more strategic then people realize. In this campaign, there is no question that she diminished McCain’s credibility on judgement for picking her but give it 4 years and things can change very drastically.

I think she will be back smarter, more polished, and more strategic in 2012 and she will have an impressive conservative grassroots following. That is if she can take the time and work on herself extensively.

Students Ask For Access To Education

Nov. 5th Student Day of Action, originally uploaded by VladGlebov.com.

A few thousand students gathered on Nov. 5th at St. George campus and then later at Queens park to send a pretty clear message, “drop fees”. Students are finding that its impossible to afford a University or College education even if you work all summer. Tuition fees that we are paying now are much higher then what any other generation of Ontario students had to endure and they keep going up and up. Just recently, we’ve been declared a “have-not” province after sky rocketing tuition fees since 1995, only interrupted by a brief two freeze. I think there is a common sense correlation between a booming knowledge based economy and access to post-secondary education.

The only way to increase access to education is to begin freezing and then lowering fees, provide more grants, and invest in universities to increase quality and spaces. I also like Obama’s idea of providing community service grants for volunteering. If Ontario will ever be an economic boom province again, education is where we have to invest, human resource is the only natural resource we’ve got.
