What do the following states have in common?
Florida - 27 electoral votes
Ohio - 20 electoral votes
Missouri - 11 electoral votes
Nevada - 5 electoral votes
They all went for Clinton in 1996 so they have a history of voting democratic. They are also too close to call at this point. In CNN poll of poll’s, Obama leads in Florida by 4%, in Nevada by 2%. In Missouri, McCain is leading by 1%, in Ohio by 2%.
So what does Obama do in the last 2 weeks of campaigning? Well, on Oct. 9th and 10th he already had about 5 events in Ohio. On Saturday he went to Missouri and set record attendance in St. Louis. Now its time to go all out in Florida. I expect he will be spending a lot of time there with Hillary Clinton and Bill Richardson. Why? Florida has early voting now. Obama has the biggest lead in Florida in comparison to other swing states. Florida has the highest electoral vote count in comparison to other swing states. Basically, I doubt it has anything to do with the nice weather.
Here is the icing on the cake, even if he looses all of those swing states, he should still have enough electoral votes to win. However, it will be way too close for comfort if things go down that road. Against Clinton, Obama had trouble at the finish line. If he improves his standing in Florida next week by a few percentage points, the likelihood of him winning will go from “excellent” to “its really over folks, nothing more to see here.” Florida is where Obama needs to prove that he can finish strong.

Vlad, I am going to keep clicking onto your website these last few days before the U.S. Elections just to see what you have to say, as I have been quite impressed with your insights regarding the Obama vs. McCain campaigns.
I read something interesting below regarding the “Muslim vote” in the states. I find it interesting that the media plays along with a tokenized term such as the “Muslim Vote”, or the “Black vote” when writing stories. I wonder if they would write the “Jewish vote” or the “Gay vote”…and not find it tokenistic and racist.

Obama is not Muslim, he is half-black, but I truly hope people are not voting for him because of his faith, or is ancestry, but rather for his attributes, his skills, his dynamism, and his leadership.
