Today Russia is withdrawing troops from Georgia returning to their original positions prior to the conflict. Less then 8,000 troops will remain in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which Russia has now recognized as independent nations. The withdrawal will take place over the next week. Russia has also already said they are open to having foreign peacekeepers move into Georgia. According to one source, there are now plans being made to bring in a small force of peacekeepers from EU, perhaps as early as the beginning of October.
