Here is a question, if tasers are non-lethal weapons then why do some people die after being stunned by them? Most recent death is this Tuesday in Winnipeg. I know there are several investigations going on but if the death toll keeps rising, it seems only logical to suspend police use of taser weapons until investigators reach a conclusion. Public safety is at stake because there are thousands of police officers who are under the impression that their taser is non-lethal when it may actually be lethal to some. I also don’t think its the police officers who should be blamed if they haven’t violated any of the procedures, its the policy makers who should have already taken action after previous incidents. How many taser related deaths will it take?

They are killing some people as we don’t know what each person’s body is like. Some people have simple heart diseases, some severe. People can have low immune systems and low pain tolerance levels, so they aren’t able to handle the power of the tasers. Also, I believe that since the body runs on an electric charge, if we mess with it, we can kill people. Most people who are shocked, are done so with equipment that is programmed to properly do so, or these people are shocked by trained professionals. Police with tasers do not know what each person is like, do not know medical conditions, and they do not know how to properly shock someone. I understand a taser is not for shocking purposes, but it has similiar properties. Don’t quote me, but these are simple ideas/answers that have come to mind.
