Immigration bill C-50 gets final passage from house of commons and moves on to the Senate where I hope reason and common sense prevails. By that I mean stalled until the next election. Otherwise, Conservative Immigration Minister, Diane Finley, which really means Stephen Harper, will get to decide which categories of immigrants will get to be fast tracked and which immigrants will be refused. They’ll essentially get to decide who their next voters will be. I wonder if my family’s immigration papers would have passed the conservative test? What about many of my Muslim friends? Considering the conservative track record on diversity, I have serious concerns about the direction this single bill may be taking our multicultural country in.
How much longer do Canadians have to put up with this? Its unimaginable to me that some Liberal MP’s, who immigrated here themselves not too long ago, could simply not show up for the vote. The bill passed 120-90, they could have at least made it a little closer.
