Vlad,,, Thought I would reply here vice WK blog, I think if you were to investigate further concerning this, you would find that your link if from his previous attempt at framing the environmental issue last year, The CPC at this point is rightfully or wrongly depending on what color lawn chair your sitting on, is attaching his recent plan that he announced was coming in late May, which is a carbon tax. If he made an mistake, it is the fact he announced a proposal, threw very little flesh on it besides revenue neutral, and thus allowed the other parties, the NDP included to flesh it out and seize control of it. Just my thoughts.

Well I know there have been some general announcements made about tax shifting but carbon taxes are not part of official Liberal platform, “official” being the key word there so there is still some room for changes. Do correct me if I really missed something here.

Vlad,, here is the problem as I see it for Mr. Dion when he first proposed it in late May I believe, not sure on the exact date, he never called it a Carbon Shift as the LPC MP’s are trying to frame it today on Newman and MDL. He allowed it to be called what for all intensive purposes it is, which is a carbon tax, thus allowing both the NDP and the CPC to frame it as a tax grab. I truly believe with something such as this in todays climate with rising gas prices he should of fleshed it fully out. He is lucky it is not fall when people start noticing the increase in heating costs.
As to your question concerning official, well when the leader of a party stands up and makes that announcement , it is as official as it is going to get till the next policy convention.

You must be talking about this event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YT871MsLC8

He talked about tax shifting there but there were interviews where he did talk about his plan in the context of a “carbon tax” as being part of the solution among other policy instruments so I agree with your point there. However, it wouldn’t be the first time political leaders changed their minds about an issue before the actual platform was released. I also don’t think its too late for that to happen considering, on the Liberal website, under Carbon Budget (although I take your point that its a year old) it still says:

“We do not favour a Carbon Tax where money is transferred from companies to the federal government and is lost in general revenue.”
