I’ve been part of the student movement in one form or another for some time now and I take great pride in the work that’s been accomplished by the team that I’ve been so fortunate to be part off.
Next year at the Mississauga campus of UofT, University of Toronto Students’ Union (UTSU), Erindale Part-time Undergraduate Students (EPUS) council, and University of Toronto Students Union (UTMSU) will be merged under the name of University of Toronto at Mississauga Students’ Union (UTMSU). Another key accomplishment was maintaining a strong and united link with St. George through representation on UTSU board and executive, something our Scarborough counter parts were unable to do.
As a result, UTM students will experience the benefits of, never before seen, unity among their student leaders. No more petty territorial fights, no more conflicting events, no more conflicting services, no more fights over talented leaders, no more conflicting positions when dealing with university administration, no more confusion!
It is a vision that has taken many years to fulfill and many generations of student leaders to put in practice. Those student leaders have sacrificed their academics, personal relationships, time and rejecting other opportunities for a chance of finally building a UTM student union that reflects the values and principals that best serve the student body.
When the last election results were in, team UTM Progress swept with over 75% of the vote and a record voter turnout. This is the all-star team that will continue to build on the shoulders of so many student leaders before them and I am proud to have worked with them in the past:
Wasah MALIK - President
Joey SANTIAGO – VP Internal And Services
Saaliha MALIK – VP Equity
Marijana JOSIFOVSKA (MJ) - VP University Affairs and Academics
Dhananjai KOHLI (DJ) - VP External
Mubashir ALI - VP Part-Time Affairs
They officially start on May 1st 2008.
In Student Solidarity,

Hey,
The picture is somewhat a story of my contribution towards the student body. I must say that I have come a long way and have worked hard every single day and night to achieve the goals as promised. I am amazed and excited to see the level of support we have at UTM and hope to build on the UNITY vision to make PROGRESS.
UTM PROGRESS has a lot planned for the following academic year and we have already started planning the avenues to help the students. I would like to thank all the students for their support because “Together we have UNITED UTM, now it’s time to PROGRESS”
