I supported and applauded the actions of UofT when President Naylor announced a decision to take out investments about a year ago from Tobacco firms thanks to a grass route effort from a student group called E-Butt. There was also support from essentially all the student unions and student governing council representatives. It turns out, supporting an industry that deliberately misinforms the public is against UofT’s educational values.
This is why I was surprised and outraged to read that Toronto Star has resumed Tobacco advertisements. Surely, profiting from Big Tobacco that has deliberately lied and mislead the public are against Toronto Star’s ethical standards. It wasn’t too long ago when those same firms told pregnant moms that smoking is safe. Just look at these jokers:

Lobby groups, anti-tobacco groups, student union’s and other organizations should revitalize public interest in the fight against Big Tobacco and I plan on supporting any such initiatives.
