Why would 15% of Canadians rather vote in the US election? (its probably higher now) There are 2.5 million reasons.
Our dominant political parties seem to be more concerned with accusing each other of being corrupt then address the issues of climate change, the war and the a slow down in the economy. Don’t get my wrong, they are voting on those issues (without the support of most Canadians) in parliament but it seems to be a distraction to what now has become a bitter war of personalities over who scores more cheap political points. Thats why non the parties are able to sustain a popularity mark higher then 35%, thats close to Bush’s 34% approval rating about a month ago (it has since dropped to 19%).
Doesn’t anyone check the polls anymore?
According to Canadians, the environment is the most important issue facing the world today, most people surveyed said (29 per cent). The next biggest issue cited was war (28 per cent). The Economy is also starting to get attention as the Canadian economy slows down.
In the mean time, the mission in Afghanistan gets extended to 2011, the Environment plan is considered by most environmental groups a license to pollute to 2018 (let future governments worry about approach) and the economic plan resembles the republican approach which is good at only one thing, acquiring deficits.
I think it will take an election to get the conversation back to the issues that Canadians care about.
