It used to be that you could not pick up a newspaper without having Belinda Stronach mentioned in the politics section. After switching from Conservatives to Liberals, 2007 she has decided not to seek re-election after saying that: “I am stepping aside from elected politics for the time being.” She assumed the Executive Vice-Chair of Magna International Inc. while her website states she remains a strong voice for her Newmarket-Aurora riding.
Well she hasn’t left the public eye completely, she is now playing some type of a leadership role on CBC’s Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister.
As a side note, along with Belinda, the last show also features Prime Ministers on a panel: Martin (PM Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2006) , Campbell (PM June to October 1993), Joe Clark (PM June 4, 1979, to March 3, 1980), Mulroney (too long). Only one of those featured Prime Ministers actually served a full term and its Mulroney… I guess Chretien wasn’t available.
Anyway, Belinda now talks to youth about what its like to be a politician:

I understand Canada wants to change and harden the laws for prosecuting children.
I am against this and think it will blacken our name as well as our souls
According to the United Nations, a child is a person under the age of 18.
Despite the fact that the government of Iran has signed International Covenants that forbid them to execute anyone who has allegedly committed an offence before the age of 18, they continue to do so.
Amnesty International has documented 26 executions of child offenders in Iran. In many cases, these minors have been imprisoned until the age of 18 and then executed. Currently, there are at least 134 minors on death row in Iran. In Iran boys are punishable from the age of 15 and girls from nine.
Do we want to be painted with this international image too? Until a child is 18 they deserve protection not prosecution
Belinda Stronach was personally responsible for saving the life of a girl on Iran’s death row. This was not made public and should have been. see http://www.stopchildexecutions.com
