No one has ever seen the crowds and excitement Obama brings when he comes to their town drawing crowds of 20,000 that line up early in the morning or the day before waiting for many hours to hear him speak for less than 30 minutes.
Its not just a political campaign, its a movement to change the world of those who still believe the world can be changed.
In contrast, Canadian politicians are busy doing media stunts. Conservatives try to bully the senate & the Liberals found a new way of abstaining on confidence motions, walking out of the room.
To be fair, they have also been busy trying to find a way not to go to the polls on the issue of Canada’s role in Afghanistan by playing around with language, changing the words such as “combat” to “security” mission. I’ll have to look at what exactly the amendment is but if the troops are staying in Afghanistan, if I was a soldier I wold prefer my commander making the decision when and where I go into combat instead of politicians who have no military experience.
Either, Canada pulls out the troops & makes arrangements to do so or it continues to occupy Afghanistan, there is not much room for “compromise” here. Telling commanders they can’t actively seek and attack groups that they think are going to attack somewhere would put Canadian troops even further at risk. The only way to reduce Canada’s role in Afghanistan is to make final arrangements and bring the troops home, 60% of Canadians are right and the Manley report confirms it, the current mission is not realistic and there is no reason why our troops should have to continue to put their lives at stake for this politically motivated experiment. No people want their country occupied by foreign troops and we will continue to see violence until Canada lets the Afghan forces do the job and pull out.
We need a leader that has the guts to make the difficult decisions and take on the conservatives by uniting NDP & Liberals either through a coalition government or uniting the two parties all together. We need a leader who can unite and bring hope. We need a leader who stands on progressive values of principal rather than weekly polls. We need a leader who is against war and can take Canada out of the war as soon as possible. We need a leader who can bring excitement and positive “yes we can” attitudes back into Canadian politics. We need a leader that can make parliament work more efficiently by achieving a majority government with a mandate from the majority of Canadians & the popular support. Canada needs an Obama.
