Differences:
- Health Care: Mandate to buy health care
- Economic Relief Plan
- War in Iraq: Obama was opposed the war from the start, Clinton voted for the motion to give Bush the power to go to war
In round 1, Obama looked shaky & Clinton really pushed him on Health Care. However, in Round 2 Obama came back and finished the job by outlining their difference on the War in Iraq.
“I won’t just have the experience on day one, I will be right on day one.” - Obama
I have to say, both candidates did what they had to do in this debate which is:
- Keep your hands clean
- Talk more about policy
- Present Democratic voters a real difference between their policy stances
On Health Care, I think Clinton made a stronger point. On immigration, Obama did slightly better but Clinton also did well with her comment that she was supporting immigration reform before Obama got to Senate. Tax cuts, both did well.
However, on War in Iraq, Obama won that debate loud and clear. In fact, I think Clinton did more damage to her self when she just would not stop talking about her vote.
Obama also presented his message on the final point better. Therefore, Obama did win that debate but not by much, is it enough to continue the momentum to swing support to him? I think so. We’ll find out on Tuesday.
That being said, I still think the dream ticket would be Obama & Clinton and I am glad they asked that question in the debate.
