I think it is symbolic that on Martin Luther King’s Jr Day, Obama’s most important debate was held against his rival Hilary Clinton that just won Nevada.
Make no mistake about it, Obama is in a fight of his life. He needs to bring momentum over to his side before its too late and South Carolina is it. If he looses, he is not out but it will certainly make it a lot more difficult to win. After a while, people tend to gravitate towards what they perceive as a winning camp so he’s gotta start winning the big ones again.
I think it is also symbolic that on Martin Luther King’s Jr day, Obama was able to respond to a question that I think was one of the turning points in the debate for him because it gave him a chance to show that charisma & passion that is so rare in politics today. The question was, why would Dr. King Jr support your campaign? The answer:
Edward is first to answer giving very detailed reasons for why he would get endorsed, here is what Obama says:
“I don’t believe Martin Luther King would endorse any of our campaigns because he believed that change is made from the people keeping their politicians accountable, from the people putting on the pressure on politicians… change is made from the ground up, the grassroutes…and that is why we need to bring the American people back into the process…I believe I am the candidate who can do that best” - Rough quote of Obama
Clinton was so short of words that she decided to go into the history of Dr. King’s civil rights movement (can’t use the experience card there).
Thats the type of message that wins campaigns.
However, I would say in this race its 50% candidate & 50% campaign organizing. Clinton has some pretty impressive individuals running her campaign including her husband, they have been pulling the vote so hard they are in a league of their own. Nevada is a perfect example of that.
Obama must win South Carolina, I think he will because he has too IF his campaign machine does its job.
