Rather then cap and trade schemes, the Green Party of Ontario prefers a CO2 tax, not as an additional tax, but part of a tax shift off incomes and businesses. A carbon tax is preferable to cap and trade since it creates a revenue stream that governments should use to reduce other taxes by an equal amount.

Although cap and trade systems do shift revenue from polluting companies to greener companies, which is useful, they are bureaucratic and do not create the revenue stream to allow tax shifting.

Carbon taxes should be applied at source (not at the pump or the counter) so as to green every step of the manufacturing process and the distribution system.

Tax shifting off jobs and business and onto fossil fuels makes CO2 emissions more expensive and people less expensive to employ, resulting in less pollution and more labour intensive and value added jobs.

Tax shifting sound a heck of a lot better then creating new taxes. I only wonder why more people don’t think smart like that. And for the rest of you supporting a new tax without reducing other taxes, don’t you think we pay enough taxes? Come on lets start thinking like the tax payers we are, please.
