Note: For those that have been following the blog from its start, know that in my previous post I promised to review other books first. However, as I went to Chapters to add a few books to my reading list, I noticed a book that had the best marketing in the entire store. On the cover it read #1 National Best Seller and Heather’s Pick, plus it was 30% off. It was also available almost everywhere in the store. I know off Mr. Schulich from the York University Schulich school of business, a school that I considered when going to University. So I decided to read it for no better reason then to find out what all the fuss was about.
The Review:
The book contains 49 chapters, most no longer then a couple of pages. The chapters are filled with “street smart” type lessons gained from Schulich’s experience in no apparent flow. However, I doubt most people will buy the book to be impressing by great writing, they probably buy it to get smarter, well do they? Perhaps not actually smarter, but probably wiser.
Schulich is a 67 year old, self made Canadian billionaire. This is all the credibility I need to know that the man probably knows a thing or two about business. However, don’t expect this book to spoon feed you anything. Its more of a basic introduction into the general rules and principles Schulich has picked up throughout life, either from the books he’s read, business, or personal experience.
I recommend this book if you are interested in a short and easy to read book of Schulich’s tips. If you are looking for a book that will give you detailed business and life lessons, consider this book as an introduction to a lot more reading. Its no wonder that at the end of the book, there is a pretty good reading list of books you should read.
Would I read this book again?
Why not, its a short read (took me a few hours) and it did make me laugh, there are cartoons for each chapter.
